Climate change is an accelerating disruptive force. The costs of climate related disasters are already surpassing $100 billion per year in California, not to mention the loss of life and property damage. In fact, rebuilding and lost economic activity costs are already 5 times the investment needed to dramatically decrease these impacts.

California desperately needs an investment in adaptation that is aligned with the threat. $300 billion over 15 years is indicated, which is over 10 times what we are investing today, yet less than 0.5% of the state’s GDP, and less than 5% of the profits of our top 20 corporations.

Resource Trends is currently working to launch a new initiative, Adapt Now California, designed to communicate the actual scale of the threat, illuminate our reactive and wholly inadequate response, outline a much larger and more inclusive generational investment in climate change adaptation, and employ tactics specifically designed to bring about transformative changes and extraordinary leadership in California.
